The heads of the Lithuanian General Prosecutor's Office will possibly block the Public Interest Defense Department prosecutor Kęstutis Vagneris’ plans to explore the Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant’s (VNPP) purchasing processes

Mr. Vagneris suspects that the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Lithuanian President, who oversees its leader, might be interested in disrupting the investigation.

According to him, the investigation is related with the former Government, which is supported by President Dalia Grybauskaitė, and to who General Prosecutor Darius Valys directly reports, so Mr. Vagneris has said that the impression is that everything is being suppressed, and not accidentally.

Meanwhile the President has stressed that the fight against corruption and the goal of making the political system and the public sector more transparent are her most important priorities.
